Lactation Consulting
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is professionally trained to help you reach your breastfeeding goals. Breastfeeding is the first activity a baby instinctually expects after birth, along with skin to skin bonding and attachment to their caregivers. Breastfeeding facilitates this bonding, helps to establish gut health, and works to promote life long wellness by allowing optimal health through the breastfeeding years and throughout the lifetime. Should breastfeeding not start out the way you had hoped or planned, an IBCLC can help get you back on track, or as close to it as possible.
IBCLC’s are the gold standard of breastfeeding care, providing families with the clinical tools, workable plans and emotional support needed to be successful. Breastfeeding is the biologically normal way to feed a baby, however, it can also be challenging to establish as a result of many different factors. A skilled IBCLC will walk through a feeding with you to assess the causes of your breastfeeding concerns. This assessment is combined with information gathered from the family throughout the consultation, to determine the possible cause for the issue and to create a plan with the family to make breastfeeding more efficient, less painful and enjoyable for the whole family. You should expect expert and individualized care from your IBCLC.A dedicated one on one visit with your IBCLC, without the distractions and loss of attention that may interfere when multiple families are seen at once, can help you get to the root of the concern quickly, and can ensure a complete plan based on the nuances of your feeding.
The breastfeeding and cheastfeeding situations an IBCLC can help you with are:
  • Sore nipples and breasts (it should not hurt!)
  • Slow weight gain/weight loss
  • Tongue, lip and buccal tie evaluations
  • Preventing and supporting common challenges (ie Low blood sugar and Jaundice)

  • This is a drop-in group clinic, to provide ongoing support to families experiencing Breastfeeding and Sleep challenges.
  • If you have Breastfeeding concerns, our IBCLC will take down your recent history, examine your baby and assess a feeding, and provide solutions to move through your Breastfeeding concern. Families may come weekly to check in, have their latch assessed, or to make changes to current feeding plans. Some challenges require a more targeted consultation to start. If a one on one consultation is suggested, the initial visit will be discounted by our drop in fee.
  • If you have sleep concerns, we will assess your history, your Infant and your sleep challenge and refer you to possible solutions for your family. We may suggest other practitioners who can help solve the underlying concern. We help within the range of biologically normal infant sleep support, and do not provide information or strategies on Sleep training.
